Saltwater Pool & Salt Cell Care Guide
A salt chlorine generator needs water balance, flow and a clean cell to work properly. But a salt cell should not be cleaned simply because the calendar says so. Inspection comes first.

Inspect before cleaning
Mineral deposits on cell plates can interfere with performance, but aggressive or unnecessary cleaning can also shorten cell life. Follow the equipment manufacturer's inspection and cleaning instructions and use a cleaning product only when the condition of the cell calls for it.
Scale is usually a water-management signal
If scale returns quickly, the real question is why. Water balance, temperature, concentration at the cell and other conditions can all contribute to mineral deposition. Repeatedly cleaning the symptom without correcting the conditions that create it is inefficient.
Saltwater pools still need complete water care
A salt system produces chlorine; it does not eliminate the need to test sanitizer, pH, alkalinity, stabilizer and other relevant parameters. Use the cell as one component in a broader maintenance routine.
