Salt Cell Buildup

A salt chlorine generator can develop mineral deposits on its cell plates. Cleaning is useful when buildup is actually present, but unnecessary or overly aggressive cleaning can shorten cell life.

Start with inspection

Turn off the system and follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions for safe cell removal and inspection. Look for visible mineral scale rather than cleaning only because a certain amount of time has passed.

If the cell needs cleaning

1. Use a cleaner compatible with the cell and follow the cleaner label.
2. Use the soaking time recommended for the product and equipment.
3. Do not scrape plates with tools that could damage them.
4. Rinse and reinstall according to the equipment instructions.
